Marlon Familton MA, Completes the Core Skills Training
in Emotionally Focused Therapy as Recognized by the ICEEFT
Bellevue, WA, September 23, 2009 -- Marlon Familton MA, couples
& marriage therapist at Collaborative Couples & Family
Counseling, LLC in Bellevue Washington, completes Core Skills Training as recognized by the International Centre
for Excellence in EFT.
The Core Skills Training is four weekends over nine
months that provides the EFT Therapist with a greater
understanding and proficiency in the EFT model of relationship
therapy enabling them to become more effective in working with
distressed couples.
“Understanding EFT as a model of therapy and now having
completed the Externship and Core Skills Training
better enables me to get to the root causes of a couple’s
distress and help them work through these issues to strengthen
their relationship and family.” Says Familton. “I am always
excited to be better at what I do because that means happier
couples and happier families, which make my career incredibly
rewarding.”
Individuals in distressed relationships find themselves in an
unbearable situation, often feeling alone or heading for
breakup. EFT does not focus on blaming or “fixing” a partner,
but rather looks at how the couple inadvertently builds a
negative pattern of interacting; a negative emotional “dance”.
Through a series of nine steps, the EFT therapist leads the
couple away from the conflictual deadlock and into new bonding
interactions that de-escalate and restructure their relationship
creating positive cycles.
EFT is a short term (8-20 sessions), structured approach to
couples therapy formulated in the early 80's by Drs. Sue Johnson
and Les Greenberg. EFT is also used with families. Research
studies find that 70-75% of couples move from distress to
recovery and approximately 90% show significant improvements.
“The EFT Core Skills Training helps the EFT therapist
deepen their knowledge and effectiveness in the EFT model.” Says
Dr. Veronica Kallos-Lilly, Psychologist and Certified EFT
Trainer. Dr. Kallos-Lilly along with Yolanda von Hockauf
presented the Training that Familton attended and
established the Vancouver Centre for EFT Training located at the
Vancouver Couple & Family Institute in British Columbia.
“Completing the Core Skills Training demonstrates Marlon’s
commitment to becoming a highly effective EFT therapist.”
“This has been a goal of mine for three years now; one I am
thrilled to achieve. The EFT model is so effective that as I
have become more proficient, my clients gain that benefit.”
Familton says. “My next target is to continue improving in my
ability to help couples recover from a distressed relationship
by targeting full certification through the ICEEFT.”
